2010 Officiating Development Camp

Salt Lake City, May7th – 9th

It’s that time of year again...if you have never been to this camp, well…you should consider it.

Do you want to learn in one weekend what would possibly take years?

This is for you!

This camp is for any male or female official who:

1.   Is age 13 or older

2.   Is not a beginner skater

3.   Wants to improve and develop their officiating skills

But…it is especially for those who love a challenge and enjoy a great time. Everyone who has attended in the past has come away from this opportunity excited and energized. They now have the tools to become a better official in much less time. Here are the details of this year’s camp:

  • The officials’ camp begins on Friday May 7th 2010, 10:00AM at the Acord Recreational Facility (right next to the Acord ice rink) in West Valley City (approximately 5400 West and 3100 South.
  • You will attend a classroom session designed specifically for this camp. It is fun and interactive for all participants. You will get instruction from officials who work at the highest levels of USA, Collegiate, and Pro Hockey.
  • You will participate in a professionally taught Power Skating session. This alone has a real dollar value of around $200.00.

Now for the special part of what this camp is about:

  • You will work actual games! The bonus here is that you each will have personal videotape with voice-over instruction, live as you work your games. Wow! You will not believe what you see/hear, and the instruction that goes along with it will have an immediate positive impact on your next on ice performance.

Camps best feature:

  • On-Ice Shadowing! Take advantage of the opportunity to have an instructor on the ice with you shadowing and coaching you as you move with the game. This is a fantastic chance to condense into one hour what might take a year or two’s worth of working games to learn proper positioning. Learn firsthand how experienced officials communicate with players then give it a try on your own.

A note about the hockey you will be officiating:

This camp is in conjunction with the District Player Development Camp. The best players at each age division (girls and boys) from around the Rocky Mountain District are invited to this camp to learn and showcase their skills in a competitive environment. The hockey is fast and skilled at every level.

Your skating ability will be evaluated for assignment considerations. If you are evaluated to be a “poor skater” - your time and opportunity for the on-ice experience may be limited for this portion of the camp. Whatever ice time you do not get assigned, you will have a rink-side seat with the instructors to learn from them as they video and coach fellow officials. Being on the ice is not the only way to learn it right and learn it fast. This is a fantastic opportunity to see and experience, firsthand, what will make you a much better official. (If you have a concern for the age of a participant or their Skating Ability call me and we can discuss it)
