USA Hockey Updates and Tier Policy Clarification

As of the 2016 - 2017 season, USA Hockey will no longer use names to classify age divisions. Each age division will be referred to by their age specific inclusions as follows:
• 18U (formerly Midget, sometimes listed as Midget Major)
• 16U (formerly Midget, sometimes listed as Midget Minor)

14U (formerly Bantam) • 12U (formerly Peewee) • 10U (formerly Squirt)
• 8U (formerly Mites)

6U (formerly listed as Mini-Mites)

NOTE: USA Hockey has approved a 15U Division for the 2016 -2017 and 2017 - 2018 seasons. The UAHA Board has NOT made any changes to our current approved Tier structure to adopt this age division.

TIER (Boys) - Notes to clarify Tier hockey

USA Hockey DOES NOT recognize AA or AAA teams. Teams may roster as House/Rec, Tier II (commonly named in the community as AA) or Tier I (commonly named in the community as AAA). Only teams that are rostered as Tier I or Tier II are eligible to compete in their state and/ or district for the right to compete in the USA Hockey Nationals tournament for their age division. USA Hockey ONLY recognizes Tier I and Tier II Teams at the 18U, 16U, 15U (conditional for 2 seasons) and 14U levels.
